Only her makeup artist guides us through each step.
The thing with Camila Mendes is that she consistently owns the red carpet, as evidenced by her sparkling ensemble at the 2022 Met Gala and her jewel-encrusted gown at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. At the premiere of her highly anticipated new Netflix film, Do Revenge, last night, Mendes continued the trend in a stylish earthy lime green ensemble.
The Versace outfit featured a ruched skirt, a boned corset top, and matching lime green opera gloves. Our favourite aspect of the outfit, though? Jen Tioseco, a well-known makeup artist, gave her a soft-grunge ’90s look using only Giorgio Armani Beauty products.
Tioseco used the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation ($69) and Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Concealer ($38) as the foundation for Mendes’ makeup look. According to Tioseco exclusively spoke to Byrdie, “The [Luminous Silk Foundation] is my go-to foundation on Cami for carpets because it photographs wonderfully and never looks too heavy on the skin.” Tioseco highlighted the high points of Mendes’ face with Armani Beauty Neo Nude A-Highlight ($36) in shade 11 to give the star’s complexion an extra sheen.
Mendes’ style featured hues that were perfect for the transitional weather, with both her dress and makeup erring on the earthy side. As autumn approaches, Tioseco explains, “I wanted to incorporate earth tones into the colour pallet.” She used shade 22 of the Armani Beauty Neo Nude Melting Color Balm cream blush ($38), a cool-toned brown that gives the skin a gloomy flush reminiscent of the ’90s.
Mendes’ lips now have more boldness thanks to Tioseco, who continues to be influenced by the ’90s: “We wanted to make the look campy in tune with the movie, so we applied a darker ’90s inspired [lip].” Tioseco used shade 200 of the Armani Beauty Lip Power Longwear Satin Lipstick ($39) to line Mendes’ lips and shade 102, a softer nude, for a fuller, poutier appearance.
Regarding Mendes’ eyes, Tioseco aimed to make them distinct from the rest of his cool-toned appearance. According to Tioseco, “I wanted the eyes to appear dewy and damp.” She used the frosty pearl hue 31 of the Armani Beauty Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadow ($30) to achieve this. Byrdie learns from Tioseco that she applied and blended this colour with her fingertips to give Mendes’s lid a shimmering appearance. Mendes finished off her eye look with a fast layer of Eyes To Kill Classico Mascara ($29), which gave her lashes more volume.
Of course Camila Mendes killed it on the red carpet, but dewy looks can occasionally be challenging to maintain for a long time. The mystery of Tioseco constructing layers. “I developed the look in layers, starting off first with creams and then topping it with powders to lock it in,” she reveals. Since it sets makeup while keeping the complexion radiant and never unduly matte, the Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Glow Setting Powder ($64) was a critical step in preserving Mendes’ appearance all night. The outcomes? A style that builds on a dewy, warm-weather complexion while incorporating the gloomy, cool-toned hues of the fall.
