Princess Märtha Louise, the oldest child of King Harald V and Queen Sonja, will be stepping down from her official responsibilities, the Norwegian Royal House said today.
They stated in a statement, “Princess Märtha Louise wants to make a clearer distinction between her personal life and her affiliation with the Norwegian Royal House. The Princess has consequently determined that she will not do official tasks for the Royal House for the moment after consulting with His Majesty The King and other close family members.”
Princess Märtha Louise will also renounce her many patronages, and other Norwegian royal family members will take their place. She stated on Instagram that “the process with the family has been cordial and compassionate.”
The statement further mentioned, “The Princess and her fiance Durek Verrett want to make a stronger distinction between their actions and those of the Royal House of Norway. In their social media accounts, media works, or in connection with other business endeavours, they will not use the title of Princess or allude to members of the Royal House, among other things ” Princess Märtha Louise’s Instagram account, which will continue to be @PrincessMarthaLouise, will be the lone exception.
King Harald also agreed that Princess Märtha Louise would continue to use the title “Princess.” (She stopped dressing in “Her Royal Highness” style in 2002, 20 years ago.) “The King and Queen would want to express their gratitude to Princess Märtha Louise for the significant effort she has done in her official position for many years. She has carried out her tasks with kindness, consideration, and a strong devotion “the sentence included
Shaman Durek, also known as Durek Verrett, will join the Royal Family once the Princess weds him, albeit “in line with custom he will not have a title or represent the Royal House of Norway.” The two will continue to join the royal family at events celebrating family milestones like birthdays.
“People find it somewhat difficult to step outside of their comfort zones and observe something new. In order to modify people’s perspectives and make them more receptive to change, we work to understand where individuals are coming from and devise strategies to increase knowledge “Verrett spoke to Town & Country about how their relationship was seen by the general public. “It calls for a lot of empathy. It calls for a lot of love and patience. ‘Merely because individuals have their judgements and their views, it just demonstrates where they are in their capacity for love,’ Märtha once stated. We shouldn’t alter our capacity for love just because we have different perspectives, though.”
