IRNA, the official news agency of Iran, reports that Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards apprehended a foreign ship in the Gulf for transporting 757,000 litres of diesel illegally.
IRNA made the claim that the seven foreign crew members of the nameless ship had been handed over to the appropriate parties, but it made no further mention of the ship, its crew, or their origins.
As a result of government subsidies and a dramatic decline in the value of its currency, Iran has some of the lowest gas prices in the entire globe. Oil is, however, frequently smuggled to its neighbours on land and to Gulf Arab countries on the sea.
The Guards have recently taken custody of several ships that were attempting to smuggle oil into the Gulf.
