In Chongqing, a big city in western China, there is one of the most twisted buildings in the world. The architects who made the 180-meter-tall “Dance of Light” building said they were inspired by the northern lights. Images of the beautiful building are getting a lot of attention on social media. According to an article in the architecture and design magazine Dezeen, the skyscraper is on Xingfu Plaza in the Jiangbei neighbourhood of Chongqing. It has two double-curved sides that make it look like the building is twisting.
A Twitter user named Santanu Bhattacharya has put up some photos of the “Dance of Light” tower. “In Chongqing, China, one of the most beautiful and twisty buildings in the world opened today. The architecture firm Aedas made the 590-foot-tall Dance of Light tower, which has a twisting exterior that looks like the northern lights.” He said in the tweet.
The 39-story building is meant to be a landmark in the business district, where all the buildings are based on stars and other things in the sky.
Since the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, has a curved shape, the studio decided to copy it. “Dance of Light” is now the name of the building.
The head of Aedas Global Design, Ken Wai, told Dezeen, “The city of Chongqing came up with the idea of the Dance of Light to celebrate how well it has done with technology. The story of The Dance of Light comes from the beautiful northern lights that lit up the sky.”
All of these are important things we want our tower to have: it should be natural, lively, and elegant, Mr. Ken said.
Aedas says that the “Dance of Light” tower is one of the “most twisted skyscrapers in the world” because it twists up to 8.8 degrees per level, which is 1.5 times more than any other building.
