Hugh Jackman said, “And trust me, there isn’t a morning that goes by that I don’t wake up to find Ryan Reynolds outside my house holding up posters asking him to come back as Wolverine.”
Hugh Jackman’s comeback as Logan/Wolverine opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3 continues to surprise Marvel fans, even if it has been a few months. For the uninitiated, Reynolds tweeted and shared an Instagram image of a funny Jackman-starrer as the “frenemies” announced Hugh’s return as Wolverine.
How was Hugh Jackman convinced to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3?
Hugh Jackman was questioned about Deadpool 3 in an interview with Deadline to promote his newest movie, The Son. The 54-year-old actor was questioned about how it all came to be, notably the Wolverine and Deadpool pairing, and referred to a recent Variety interview in which he described the third MCU instalment as being similar to 48 Hours (1982). Hugh noted how, 20 minutes into viewing Deadpool, he suddenly thought, “Uh-oh,” only a few weeks after the actor declared that Logan would be his final film. Hugh was “completely intended” by the actor’s announcement.
Hugh Jackman, who was suffering from a slight hangover from The Son director Florian Zeller, recalled taking a week off from his Broadway run of The Music Man to simply go to the beach in the middle of August. Jackman had his first free week in around 8 to 10 months. Hugh suddenly had the thought that he “truly wanted” to reprise his role as Wolverine, unquestionably his favourite.
Hugh Jackman said that Wolverine’s comeback was “clearly lurking and brewing.”
Hugh Jackman continued, joking about how Ryan Reynolds has been nagging him about playing Wolverine again “As soon as I got to the beach, I contacted Ryan Reynolds to find out what in the world was going on. then, here we are today. So quickly, actually. And believe me when I tell that every morning when I awaken Ryan Reynolds appears outside my house holding signs that read, “Please.” He keeps pestering me to tell him more. And I thought, “Dude, I’m done.” I’m finished, finished, finished, finished, finished. He said, “Are you serious?” when he called me [back]. So, yeah.”
Hugh Jackman, though, was always considering the possibility of returning to Wolverine’s toes: “I play poker really poorly. I truly did mean it when I said I was finished all along. However, it is clear that this concept was simmering and hiding deep inside.”
Ryan Reynolds is undoubtedly responsible for his return as Wolverine, so there!
